Introduction
Safety at Wickbond is not a final inspection step. It is an operating framework embedded into formulation approval, material qualification, production execution, and documentation control.
This framework governs manufacturing from raw-material intake through finished-goods release for candles and home-fragrance products. These standards apply across private-label, contract manufacturing, white-label, and export programs.
Every product manufactured at Wickbond operates within defined safety parameters and can be supported with documentation aligned to its destination market, sales channel, and regulatory exposure.
Core Principle
Safety Philosophy
Compliance is the minimum. Defensibility is the requirement.
Every product must remain defensible under scrutiny — regulatory, commercial, and legal.
A product that technically complies yet exposes a brand to avoidable regulatory, commercial, or legal risk is not considered safe.
A formulation without complete, verifiable documentation is not considered market-ready.
Certification
Quality Management Framework (ISO 9001:2015)
ISO 9001:2015 Certified
Safety governance is integrated into documented procedures, change control, risk assessment, internal audits, and corrective action processes, alongside broader quality and production controls.
Fragrance Standards
IFRA Compliance Architecture
Fragrance use for regulated and export programs follows current IFRA (International Fragrance Association) standards applicable to the relevant product category.
IFRA-Managed Programs
- Fragrance oils sourced with valid IFRA conformity certificates
- Usage assessed under correct IFRA category (Category 12 – Candles)
- Fragrance load within maximum permitted concentration limits
- Documentation retained for batch-level traceability
Non-IFRA-Managed Programs
- Fragrances remain supported by SDS documentation
- Burn-safety evaluation conducted
- Products not represented as IFRA-compliant
- Deviations documented; brand owner responsibility
Client-supplied fragrances are reviewed against current IFRA standards so that alignment, limits, or deviations are clearly documented prior to production.
Material Safety
Safety Data Sheets (SDS / MSDS)
Every fragrance oil and regulated chemical input used in production is supported by a Safety Data Sheet (SDS / MSDS).
Hazard Identification
Classification and identification of material hazards.
Composition
Ingredient disclosure and mixture information.
Handling & Storage
Safe handling procedures and exposure controls.
PPE Guidance
Personal protective equipment requirements.
Transport Classification
Regulatory classification for transport.
Records Retention
Controlled for compliance review and audits.
No regulated input is used in defined compliance programs without supporting safety documentation.
Verification
Certificates of Analysis (COA)
Certificates of Analysis are maintained where applicable for raw materials and finished goods.
- Specification Conformity — Verification against approved specifications
- Property Verification — Key physical and chemical properties confirmed
- Batch Consistency — Fitness for release assessment
Ingredient Safety
Ingredient Disclosure and Allergen Management
Ingredient documentation is maintained based on supplier disclosure and applicable regulatory frameworks. Declared allergens are disclosed transparently and are not masked or obscured.
Composition Review
Review of declared ingredient composition from all suppliers.
Allergen Identification
Identification of regulated allergens and sensitizers in formulations.
Disclosure Preparation
Ingredient and allergen disclosure data prepared for client labeling and compliance.
Programs requiring allergen-controlled, allergen-minimized, or "free-from" positioning must define these requirements during qualification.
EU & UK Markets
CLP Classification and Label Data
Products destined for EU CLP and GB CLP regulated markets are evaluated for classification and labeling alignment.
Hazard Classification
Mixture hazard classification assessment.
Pictograms
Determination of pictograms and signal words.
H- & P-Statements
Generation of applicable hazard and precautionary statements.
Supplemental Info
Identification of required supplemental statements.
Wickbond provides composition data, classification support, and label content guidance. Final label design, application, and legal compliance remain the responsibility of the brand owner.
Performance Testing
Burn Safety and Performance
Chemical compliance alone does not ensure safe consumer use. Specifications for ongoing production are released only after burn behavior meets defined internal safety thresholds.
Flame Behavior
Flame height and stability evaluation.
Melt Pool
Melt pool formation and depth assessment.
Heat Transfer
Container heat transfer and surface temperature.
Emissions
Soot, smoke, and residue behavior monitoring.
Lifecycle Performance
Predictable performance across product life.
System Validation
Wick, wax, fragrance, and vessel validated together.
Packaging
Container and Packaging Safety
Containers and packaging are evaluated for functional and thermal suitability. Client-supplied vessels are accepted subject to safety review.
- Heat tolerance under sustained burn
- Structural stability and tipping risk assessment
- Failure or fracture risk under foreseeable use
- Packaging flammability and transit robustness
Non-conforming components may be restricted, modified, or declined.
Logistics
Transport and Storage Classification
Certain materials and finished goods may be subject to transport regulation. Wickbond provides classification data based on formulation and SDS information.
Dangerous Goods Status
Assessment for dangerous goods classification requirements.
UN Classification
UN number and packing group identification.
Exemption Evaluation
Limited quantity and exemption assessment.
Modal Documentation
Road, sea, and air documentation requirements.
Compliant packing, declaration, and transport execution remain the responsibility of the client or appointed logistics partner.
Export Markets
Market-Specific Compliance Alignment
United Kingdom
CLP and general product safety alignment.
GB CLPEuropean Union
CLP and REACH-related considerations.
EU CLPUnited States
CPSC-aligned consumer product safety expectations.
CPSCOther Markets
Export markets defined during program setup.
CustomSupport includes documentation, formulation discipline, and technical guidance. It does not replace legal, regulatory, or toxicological advice. Final compliance decisions and any required registrations remain with the brand owner.
California
Proposition 65
Wickbond does not issue Proposition 65 determinations, exemptions, or warnings.
We provide composition data, flag potential relevance where appropriate, and support client-side assessment. All Prop 65 decisions remain the responsibility of the brand owner.
Ethics
Animal Testing and Cruelty-Free Positioning
No Animal Testing
Wickbond does not conduct or commission animal testing for candles or home-fragrance products. Where available, supplier documentation can be provided to support client-led cruelty-free positioning. Final cruelty-free or vegan claims, certifications, and consumer-facing representations remain the responsibility of the brand owner.
Quality Release
Release Certification and Traceability
For defined programs, finished goods are issued Release Certificates prior to dispatch. All production is traceable at batch level to materials, specifications, and production dates.
- Specification Completion — Verified against approved specs
- Quality Verification — Batch integrity confirmed
- Documentation Complete — For the agreed program scope
- Batch Traceability — Supporting investigations, withdrawals, or recalls
Clarification
What Safety Standards Are Not
Safety at Wickbond is an operating discipline applied continuously. It is not:
- A certificate purchased after production
- A single test on a sample batch
- A visual inspection of finished goods
- A marketing claim unsupported by documentation
Fit Assessment
Program Alignment
This safety framework is designed for brands with real regulatory and reputational exposure. Programs with undefined or evolving requirements undergo qualification before scope confirmation.
- Prestige and retail distribution programs
- Export and multi-market programs
- Hospitality, corporate, and institutional procurement
- Brands treating safety, compliance, and liability as ongoing obligations
Audit Support
Documentation and Audit Support
Documentation is managed under standard confidentiality and NDA frameworks and is available to support client compliance and audit programs.
SDS / MSDS
Safety Data Sheets for all regulated inputs.
IFRA Certificates
Fragrance conformity certificates.
COA Documents
Certificates of Analysis for materials.
Allergen Disclosures
Ingredient and allergen data.
ISO Certification
ISO 9001:2015 certification records.
Release Certificates
For defined manufacturing programs.
Legal and regulatory determinations remain the responsibility of the brand owner or their appointed advisors.
